After Idlib, Forum of Ethical Journalism Organized in Rural Hama

The General Board of Ethical Charter for Syrian Media (ECSM) organized on August 15, 2018 the second forum of “Ethical Journalism” in Qalaat Al Mudiq in the rebel-held western Hama area. The forum was attended by 22 male journalists and four women journalists representing different local and Arab media outlets in the rebel-held north of Syria. The forum discussed ethical and professional codes of journalism and the current situation of the Syrian media, in addition to shedding light on ECSM and its scope of work.

Akram Al Ahmad, director of ECSM and the forum facilitator expressed his happiness for meeting such a group of distinguished Syrian media workers who are passionate about their job. Al Ahmad added, “this forum is the second event organized by ECSM in the Syrian interior. It comes in the context of a series of activities that ECSM is aiming to organize inside Syria.”

Media worker Abdulrazzak Khleif said, “the forum discussed issues that we were oblivious of. We got informed of ECSM and its membership conditions. We are now considering joining ECSM.”

Media worker Muhammad Hweish said the forum was “excellent and helped explain lots of things related to media discourse, such as impartiality in journalism and its application during media coverage.”

The first forum by ECSM was organized one day earlier in the city of Idlib.
